you gave us ONE chief justice. we've given you the founding fathers, the numerous commentaries from before, during, and after ratification. We've given you a dozen state and federal court cases affirming an individual right. A 1982 US Senate commission report affirming an individual right.

History, from the founders perspective, gave them experience and wisdom beyond your years. They knew that governments encroached on liberty, that standing armies were to be feared as banes to liberty. The federalist and anti federalists came to a compromise for ratification and settled on a Bill of Rights that would dictate that the new federal government had zero power or authority over certain rights of the people, as outlined in the first 8 Amendments. The 9th and 10th make it even clearer that the new federal government was subordinate to the states when it came to powers that were not prescribed to them.
