Trump actually IS a lot like Hitler

Trump clearly aspires to be a dictator. He is still claiming to have won the last election.

Terms like "Godwin's Law" are meant to be quick debate-enders. But they also prevent an honest discussion of historical similarities, in a way that we could actually learn from our history and not repeat the same mistakes.

It doesn't mean they're exactly alike. But the messianic complex, the narcissism, the demand for complete loyalty (without returning it), the brilliant manipulation of the masses. Both focused on grievances and being the "retribution" for those who were wronged. And neither had political adversaries - if people aren't on board, they're enemies. Both have a cult of personality.

It's time to actually learn from history. Does anyone doubt that Trump would trash the Constitution if it didn't suit him? He is capable of anything, and - as Carlson said - he is good at destroying things.

I don't think it's BS. If I made a claim that he is exactly like Hitler, sure.

But I started the thread after watching a documentary on Hitler. I've seen a lot of stuff on that guy, but it was just striking to me how similar the 2 were in some ways. I mean, how could you argue that Trump has a similar Messianic complex? "I alone can fix it" - and he has said a variation of that many times. Similar narcissism, similar demands for loyalty. Both men thrive on pitting groups against one another, and playing to the fears and grievances of their supporters.

They are both master manipulators of the mass psyche. It's something I'm morbidly fascinated with.

But again - I'm not saying they're exactly alike. Obviously, they are not. Hitler had a major obsession with prejudicial hate for certain groups of people (mainly, German Jews), and was obviously a genocidal maniac, which Trump is not.

You are correct. Trump is not exactly like Hitler. Hitler styled his hair much differently from Hitler. But other than that, the match-up comes very close to being identical.
