Default "I love the poorly educated"

Trump has actually told the truth a few times in his life.

I try to refrain from judging anyone individually based on their education level. Obviously, there are high school dropouts who have gone on to do amazing things, and be incredibly successful.

But in GENERAL, it's not the best thing when a candidate relies on poorly educated people to maintain his or her popularity. And that is Trump's huge advantage as a candidate - those who are less educated prefer him over primary opponents, or any Democrat.

And it explains a lot about his popularity. Grifters rely on people not wising up to what they're doing.

Look at this forum. Without doubt, Trump supporters are the dumbest people on the forum. Many of them have not even mastered basic grammar.

The Democratic Party base for decades was the working class. Even today many of the party voters don’t have a college degree. This sounds a lot like those who used to say only college educated white males should vote.

No disrespect but this is 100% TDS. Trump has broken you.

People with at or below normal IQs tend to see things in black and white, particularly if they were raised Christian and/or conservative. Candidates who appeal to strong emotions -- particularly fear, distrust, anger, hate -- appeal to these guys. Candidates who can frame complex issues (like immigration for example) into simple either-or/us-vs-them memes appeal to these guys.

I'm not convinced that even education can fix this.

Fear is their motivation as they see they aren't the default anymore

Precisely. I like the term "grievance politics." It perfectly describes what the typical (R) candidate runs on, and who it appeals to. IMO it is far more dangerous than the so-called "identity politics" that they claim (D)s run on.

Yep now they have to compete with those that are not like them

Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham once delivered an odd warning.

“We’re not generating enough angry white guys to stay in business for the long term,” he said, while attending the 2012 Republican National Convention.

No one is making that complaint anymore.

Lately, the news seems filled with grim mug shots of angry white guys. A white man allegedly kills two black people at a supermarket after failing minutes earlier to enter a black church. Another opens fire at a yoga studio, killing two people and injuring five more before turning the gun on himself. And a third is accused of massacring 11 worshipers at a synagogue, afterward yelling, “I just want to kill Jews.”

“The way certain developments in the economy, in politics and in the social world have gone in the last 40 years has led to working-class white men … feeling like their authority has been undermined,” said sociologist Raka Ray, dean of social sciences at UC Berkeley. “When you get strong feelings of anger and despair in a group or a population, that can turn very quickly into giving encouragement to the politics of resentment or the politics of revenge.”
