Default Biden approves massive oil drilling project climate activists derided as 'carbon bomb

The Biden administration announced Monday that it is moving forward with approving a massive 30-year oil drilling project in Alaska over objections from climate activists and Democratic lawmakers about its environmental impact.

The Department of Interior (DOI) approved three of the five drilling sites proposed by oil company ConocoPhillips as part of its Willow Project in the National Petroleum Reserve (NPR-A) located in North Slope Borough, Alaska. ConocoPhillips previously stated that, for the project to remain economically viable, the federal government would need to approve at least three of the sites.

According to the record of decision published by the Bureau of Land Management, the administration is also flatly rejecting the two other drilling sites and associated infrastructure proposed by ConocoPhillips. And the Houston-based company agreed to forfeit about 68,000 acres of drilling rights that it owns for a separate project.....

WHAT THE HECK! Doesn't Biden know there are 47 bizillion unused oil and gas leases. This makes no sense.

My guess is since Biden is just like every other politician and has to make happy even those who value their money and livelihoods over climate. Apparently this is a project that has a lot of support among unions and even some of the native Alaskan tribal leaders interested in good paying jobs.

This feels like a sop to those folks and it's understandable why these folks may be wanting this.

It's probably not a good thing despite the administration's suggestion that it still aligns with their environmental position. I'd love to see it scrapped.

And, what's your solution to our energy needs?

Alternative energy in as great an amount as we can as quickly as we can. It will not end our fossil fuel dependence for a while, but it will cut back on it, cleaning up our air, land, and water as it goes along.

Which "alternative" energy types are you talking about?

I'm figuring it's wind and solar, both of which are unreliable, unable to meet our needs, unaffordable, and all-in-all worthless.

For example, Vogtle Nuclear just opened fully in Georgia. To match its yearly output would require roughly $1.5 trillion in solar panels and batteries while the nuke plant cost $30.34 billion. That's based on known, actual output values and construction costs, not some fanciful numbers from a radical Leftist SWAGPOOYA.

Because the people running the country at the moment are all in on wind and solar and are going to fuck us all for it.

Like Perry said, it will not end the oil dependence. Work it in parallel.

But given results in countries that have significantly upped their percentage of wind and solar, it's an expensive disaster. The grid becomes unstable, corporations that depend on reliable power start installing uninterruptable power supplies, diesel generators, batteries, etc., all at big and unnecessary expense that they pass on to customers. The average person experiences brown outs and black outs as the grid becomes increasingly unstable.

Worst of all, electricity doubles to triples in price becoming an almost luxury item. In Germany people have resorted to wood pellet stoves (far worse for the environment than natural gas) to heat their homes because they can't afford electricity and gas is no longer an option.

Solar and wind are major losers as energy sources.
