I grew up in that shithole and left in 1991. I had an uncle and two friends murdered there, two were home invasions, the other was riding his bike on the way to his mother’s house for supper. I was the victim of no less than a dozen incidents.
What makes N.O different is that if you live there long enough , eventually you know someone personally that has been murdered.
No you don’t hear of super predators dragging nice old ladies to their death after beating them to a pulp every week.

The 3 girls plead guilty to a reduced charged and sentenced to 20 years. I’m ok with that.
The thug that dragged Frickey severing her arm has pled not guilty.
The dindu defense.
He should get a drawn and quartered public execution .

I loved NOLA through the 70's. !980 Mardi Gras (the one that was "cancelled" because of police strike) was the last one I went to. It has gone steadily downhill...sadly.

I don't even go to the Spring Jazzfest anymore....

I’ve been there a total of 3 times in the last 20 years. You are correct, it has gone steadily down. Each time I vow never to go back then reminisce how it was in the’70’s and return to a cesspool of complete and total anarchy. Stop signs and red lights are now considered yield signs with the blessing of the NOPD because of the rampant carjackings.
The entire French Quarter is a dump that smells of urine with uncollected rat infested garbage everywhere.
Even went to what I thought was a safe harbor pub in Old Metairie where a thug just grabbed my burger from the table and walked off with it.
