Early ICE cars weren't paragons of dependability either.

If electric is the way we end up going, technology will improve.

My first car didn't have sequential multiport injection, GPS, or even a backup camera.

On the plus side, it didn't have those tall fucking head restraints, either. Never mind.

    Just checked. 1400+ miles.

Average car would use 60-70 gallons of gas. App. $250 more or less depending upon when your fantasy happened. 3 to 5 stops for gas.

    What was the issue again?

How long does it take to fill your gas tank?

A brother and sister rented a Tesla and found they had to stop six times in one day to charge it.
Xaviar Steavenson and his sister Alice drove from Orlando, Florida to Wichita, Kansas.

They said other customers with rented Teslas had called Hertz with similar charging problems.Xaviar and Alice Steavenson wanted to find out what it's like to drive a Tesla, so they rented one from Hertz for a road trip from Orlando, Florida to Wichita, Kansas.

They knew that the electric car would need charging en route, but what the siblings did not expect was just how often they'd need to plug it in.

They realized it would take longer to charge the car after the weather turned so cold in late December.

However, it got to the point that the "battery would drain faster than it would charge," Xaviar told Insider.

When they set off they could drive for at least two and a half hours before needing to charge the Tesla. "We ended up having to stop every one to one and a half hours to charge for an hour, then an hour and a half, then two hours," he said.

"So beyond the lost time, it also got to the point it was between $25 and $30 to recharge. Just in one day, we stopped six times to charge at that cost," Xaviar said.

Hertz said on its website that renting a Tesla was "always cheaper than gas," according to Xaviar, but he said that claim was far from the truth.

The first time the siblings called Hertz, Xaviar said the agent told him he'd had "had nothing but Tesla calls today – I have no idea why they're having issues."

What a nightmare. I bet they were pissed at Hertz for renting them that POS. A car that would do that to you in freezing weather is DANGEROUS.
So you've cherry-picked one story about one malfunctioning vehicle. There were other Teslas on the road that day. Were they all malfunctioning?

C'mon, man, your desperation is so obvious. Also, I thought Elon was your 1A hero!

On my trip to and from Seattle over the holidays I saw several EVs on the road. They didn't seem to be struggling for a charge. It is true that batteries are less efficient in extreme temperatures, but not the the extent described in our desperate OP.

Lurch, reading is fundamental. Try it sometimes.

The first time the siblings called Hertz, Xaviar said the agent told him he'd had "had nothing but Tesla calls today – I have no idea why they're having issues."

According to the fantasy, the car had to stop an average of every 200+ miles. App. once every 4 hours. They probably stopped to pee.

If it takes you an hour to fill the gas tank in your car, that explains a lot about your intelligence. Are you also one of those asshats that holds up the line while you have the clerk check a dozen of your scratch-offs. Go back to tending your cats.
