Top Jan. 6 investigator says FBI, other agencies could have done more to repel Capitol mob had they acted on intel
The House Jan. 6 committee concluded that the FBI and other federal security agencies could have prevented a violent mob from overrunning the Capitol had they acted on the large volume of intelligence collected beforehand, the chief investigator told NBC News in an exclusive interview — a judgment the committee left out of its televised hearings and final report.
Former federal prosecutor Tim Heaphy, the committee’s chief investigative counsel, said that while he endorses the panel’s main finding that then-President Donald Trump sparked the riot by urging protesters to go to the Capitol, his probe documented how federal law enforcement failures contributed to the debacle...............

Oh gee how did the J6 committee forget to mention this? And why did law enforcement like the FBI fail to act upon its intelligence? Probably because they wanted it to happen. That is the reason the provocateurs like Ray Epps, the megaphone guy, and others have never been arrested for their parts in inciting the crowds. Oh and who was ultimately responsible to make sure the Capitol was protected? Nancy Pelosi a person that was politically interested in making Trump and his supporters look bad. And somehow the J6 committee just forgot to report to the public on why law enforcement was caught flat footer on J6. Yes a few of Trump supporters were idiots but keep in mind tens of millions of Trump supporters voted for him and did not riot on J6.

Is anyone surprised the J6 committee didn't mention law enforcement's failure to act on the intel they had to protect the Capitol.

The problem is that President Trump was behind the coup attempt.

The President of the United States is the only person who can call out the National Guard in D.C. Trump refused.

The Speaker of the House has no authority to call out the National Guard. Only the President has that authority in Washington D.C.
You sir are incorrect. Nancy is the one that did NOT initiate the national guard until after the riot was over. If Nancy could initiate the Guard as you say (she did it too late) why didn't she do it before the riot . Clearly she had the power to do it.They had intelligence that there would be violence THREE DAYS before the riot.
Leadership and law enforcement failures within the U.S. Capitol left the complex vulnerable on January 6, 2021,” says the report, which is based on a trove of texts and email messages, and testimony from Capitol Police leaders and rank-and-file officers.
https://nypost.com/2022/12/21/house-...rity-failures/House Sergeant at Arms Paul Irving, who answered to Pelosi as one of three voting members of the Capitol Police Board, “succumbed to political pressures from the Office of Speaker Pelosi and House Democrat leadership,” was “compromised by politics and did not adequately prepare for violence at the Capitol.”
Pelosi and her staff “coordinated closely” with Irving on security plans for the Joint Session of Congress on Jan. 6, but Republicans were deliberately left out of “important discussions related to security.”
....
The report also claims that “staff within the House Sergeant at Arms office emailed Paul Irving that January 6th was Pelosi’s fault,” although it provides no evidence for the assertion.
When Irving was forced to resign after the riot, an email from an unnamed staffer in his office criticized Pelosi’s “knee-jerk reaction to yesterday’s unprecedented event” and described his resignation as “spectacularly unjust, unfair, and unwarranted. This is not your fault. Or [Capitol Police chief Steven] Sund’s fault.”....
The report insinuates that the Speaker left the Capitol Police without backup on Jan. 6 because “widespread concern from Democratic leadership over ‘optics’ in the aftermath of the Summer 2020 ‘Black Lives Matter’ protests prevented early deployment of the National Guard.”.....
To illustrate the intense involvement of Pelosi’s office, on Jan. 6 alone, the report records 36 communications between Irving and Pelosi staffers, including 11 with McCullough, and 20 with Jamie Fleet, a Pelosi aide who doubled as a Democratic staff director.
Pelosi’s repeated assertions that she has “no power over the Capitol Police” are rejected.
“This is false,” says the report. “Documents provided by [current] House Sergeant at Arms show how then-House Sergeant at Arms Paul Irving carried out his duties in clear deference to the Speaker, her staff, and other Democratic staff . . .
“House Rules dictate . . . that the Sergeant at Arms is to report directly to the Speaker of the House.”
But don't worry the Republican House WILL get to the bottom of why the Capitol was so poorly protected on J6.
Also the Mayor of DC refused the National Guard in writing.

And yet Geeko just said Nancy was the one that initiated the National Guard. Could you liberals please get your stories straight?
The former chief of U.S. Capitol Police says security officials at the House and Senate rebuffed his early requests to call in the National Guard ahead of a demonstration in support of President Trump that turned into a deadly attack on Congress.
Former chief Steven Sund -- who resigned his post last week after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called for him to step down -- made the assertions in an interview with The Washington Post published Sunday.
Sund contradicts claims made by officials after Wednesday's assault on Capitol Hill. Sund's superiors said previously that the National Guard and other additional security support could have been provided, but no one at the Capitol requested it.
Sund told the Post that House Sergeant-at-Arms Paul Irving was concerned with the "optics" of declaring an emergency ahead of the protests and rejected a National Guard presence. He says Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Michael Stenger recommended that he informally request the Guard to be ready in case it was needed to maintain security.
Like Sund, Irving and Stenger have also since resigned their posts.
Sund says he requested assistance six times ahead of and during the attack on the Capitol. Each of those requests was denied or delayed, he says.https://nypost.com/2022/12/21/house-...rity-failures/“House Rules dictate . . . that the Sergeant at Arms is to report directly to the Speaker of the House.”

Can you imagine if - instead of watching for 3 hours without saying anything - Trump called his cult off in the 1st 20 minutes?
This was Trump, Trump, Trump. And more Trump. Only 1 man is responsible for 1/6.
