Just in Wisconsin alone the amount of factories is staggering. The rest of the upper midwest is no different. They were put here because there were millions of people with strong work ethic.

I was forged in Rockford Il during the 60's and 70's...work ethic was already in decline then and there. I got it, I worked my ass off for most of my life, for instance I spent 5 years getting up at 4:30 to do a large paper route as a kid/teen, but most of my peers had no interest in working like I did. My grandparents, all mid west Protestants, said that my youth was easier than theirs was, but they approved of my willingness to work. My mom and dad had a lot of problems, but they were also hard workers. My parents were "work hard/play hard", my grandparents were mostly "Work Hard, carry your load with grace".
