With dependents, the amount given goes up so that remains valid.

It is because recipients are mostly stupid idiots and / or drug addled morons that they can't get enough food on food stamps. Thus, we need a program to force those on drugs to stop and everyone in the program to attend--on a continuing basis--classes to learn (have it pounded into their think skulls and pea brains?) how to budget their money and feed themselves.

If they can't manage that, then fuck 'em.
How about we just say fuck you to gun assholes who love seeing murder statistics soar

    You hate people

    Most Americans don’t

That’s why Republicans have to cheat in elections

Picking a site that advocates for homeless people was a bad choice.

    Family Homelessness

There were 171,575 people in families with children who experienced homelessness on a single night in 2020, essentially the same as in 2019. Nine in ten people experiencing homelessness in families with children were sheltered, 154,908 people. Ten percent of people in families with children, 16,667 people, were found in unsheltered locations.

Experiencing homelessness for a single night or a few days is not being "homeless." The 16,667 people who were unsheltered represent those that are truly homeless. That is, people who are not experiencing homelessness for a short period of time between having a home. That represents about 3% of homeless people.

Of course, most, if not all, statistics on homeless people are suspect to begin with. The government and researchers rely almost entirely on self-reporting to gather their data. Thus, veterans are always overrepresented as homeless because the researchers take the word of the homeless person without verification. When a homeless guy tells me he was a veteran, it usually goes like this...

The second you start questioning about their "service" their story comes apart like a $2 suit in the rain.

Food stamps give 7 bucks and change per day. Some states even less. That is no way to thrive and giving up half for beer and cigarettes does not compute. You get all the bulk you can out of the stamps. You do not have the luxury of a balanced diet and meat is out of reach. But if they take a Trumpy to market, I am sure they will learn the right way to live.

It's usually single young men will sell their stamps and eat at food kitchens.

Iowa Republicans are proposing sweeping changes to the state's food assistance program — including banning beneficiaries from buying grocery staples like meat, American cheese, or flour.

SNAP recipients wouldn't be able to buy a variety of foods, including white grain bread, buns with added nuts or seeds, white rice, pasta sauce, canned fruits or soups, baked beans, cheese slices, butter, or flour.

interesting.......here is the bill proposed......full text.....

not a single word from the OP is in the bill......check for yourself......apparently MSN and guano are lying out of their ass.......

all the bill does is require that the government verify and audit data on use of SNAP and other assistance programs....

IN the bill you posted here is the key section apparently:

"This division requires HHS to request a waiver from the United States department of agriculture, food and nutrition service, to provide that the eligible foods under the state administration of SNAP only include those items defined as supplemental foods in the most current Iowa special supplemental nutrition program for women, infants, and children (WIC) approved food list"

The article mentions that WIC is considered a SUPPLEMENT to SNAP and as such the food choices are far more restricted since it isn't intended to be the same as SNAP.

Hope that helps. Now you see they weren't actually lying necessarily. You just didn't read the bill closely enough.
