The usual reason is somebody doesn't want to be accountable for their previous posts, and cancel the member account and register a new account with a new screen name.

That's what happened when conservative posters belatedly became ashamed of their unadulterated worship of George Dumbya Bush.

    Assuming that is true?

I wonder if this post of his had anything to do with it:

He had changed his name multiple times, and we knew that he had done it....which is strange. Maybe this time he is just gone who can say.

It is remarkable that when we started posting on p dot com and FP, conservatives to almost a man were fierce in their devotion to George Dumbya, but years later you can barely find anyone who will cop to being a staunch Dumya supporter.

There were few of us here who did not support W and his war. They have all left, died or changed their names.

Does this apply to the king's subjects only or to anybody who lives in Thailand? Seems awfully harsh and repressive. I was reading that neither the king nor the royal family has ever filed charges under this law.

It's so bizarre, I think of people like Henry VIII or Louis XIV using this, not 21st century countries.

In those days, conservative posters thought we were traitors if we dared to think invading Iraq was a dumb ass idea.

“He violated the law by writing articles and posted them on a Web site,” Tharit Pengdit, the director of Thailand’s Department of Special Investigation, said in an interview. Mr. Tharit declined to disclose the contents of the posted material but said the case involved three offenses “which violate state security.”

Me also around 2002. Bush was deified by the rightwing then, and there were more than a few conservatives who thought I belonged in Gitmo for opposing the invasion of Iraq.
