Default Switzerland Mulling Bans on Electric Car Use Amid Energy Shortages

As a result of the ongoing energy crisis throughout Europe, Switzerland is considering a ban on the use of electric cars for non-essential purposes.

Owners of Teslas, Volts, and other electric cars in Switzerland may soon find themselves taking the bus, with the country reportedly considering a partial ban on using EVs as part of a host of measures aimed at saving electricity.

"The Swiss must be prepared for hard times. In winter, the country imports large amounts of electricity. In 2021, 5.7 billion kilowatt hours came mainly from France and Germany. The Federal Council, the government of Switzerland, fears that larger quantities could be missing this winter, especially since France and Germany will not exactly have electricity in abundance. In order to avoid a blackout - a nationwide power failure - the Federal Council decided on a drastic savings program.

If the planned austerity measures (PDF) , which are becoming stricter in four steps, do not take effect, power cuts are planned. Each region then takes turns. Only consumer groups with vital services such as energy and water supply, blue light organizations or basic medical care can be exempted from power cuts if it is technically feasible.

In the event of such a serious shortage, 34,000 end customers with an annual consumption of at least 100 megawatt hours could - also temporarily - be cut off from the power supply. The 110,000 owners of electric cars will then only be able to make "essential journeys" . This should be ensured with controls by the cantons. However, since most of them are hybrid vehicles, this could be avoided by simply not charging the batteries and only using the combustion engine. Skiers will also have to limit themselves, because artificial snow is forbidden in the event of a power shortage - a disaster in a mild winter, also for the lift and mountain railway operators."

The future tells us that everyone will be driving an EV, until something better comes along. Can you say Hydrogen?

The truth behind the rumored EV driving ban in Switzerland!

In the last few days, reports in various media outlets have circulated which, at least in their headlines, somewhat luridly suggested that Switzerland was planning driving bans for electric cars. It turns out the truth behind the “news” is not quite that wild.

The basis for the reports is the ‘Ordinance on Restrictions and Prohibitions on the Use of Electric Energy’. So far, this is only a draft the Swiss Federal Council is currently writing to prepare for the possibility of an electricity shortage, as are other countries – as an emergency response.

The draft ordinance regulates “restrictions and prohibitions on the use of electrical energy in order to secure the country’s electricity supply”. It outlines four possible escalation levels within which the use of bans would at best be staggered in the event of a crisis. E-mobility is only mentioned in escalation level 3 as one of many possible measures. There it says: “The private use of electric cars is only permitted for absolutely necessary journeys (e.g. exercising one’s profession, shopping, visiting the doctor, attending religious events, attending court appointments).” So: Should there really be a power shortage in Switzerland, according to the draft, partial driving bans for electric cars could be considered as one of numerous upstream measures.

Only if politicians and other assorted retards on the Left continue to FORCE people into them. If it were left up to the market, not government making laws, rules, and regulations forcing the purchase of EV's, the EV would be the same technological dead end it has repeatedly been throughout history. Few people choose to drive an EV. They get forced into it by government whether it's through subsidies, banning alternatives, or other uses of legal force, that's the only way EV's are gaining in the market--THE ONLY WAY THEY ARE.

Do any of you shitheads realize that an electric car, charged by the owner's own solar panels helps the situation?
It is the responsibility of every American citizen to own a modern military rifle.

This has nothing to do with politics, you brain dead slut. Every car manufacturer is committed to having an electric fleet, and they are not in business to lose money. They see the future you live in the past.
