The fact the police are closed-mouthed about it tells me they have suspects but are still working on the evidence to make an arrest.

Most stabbing murders involve injury to the murderer because all that blood and violence makes edged-weapons slippery.

If the knife had a blade guard on it, like many hunting knives do, it may have prevented the attacker's hand from slipping onto the blade.

A hilt would have helped, but the crime scene was splattered with blood. Even murdering one person with a knife is a mess. Murdering four is bound to cause the attacker to have wounds himself and leave DNA behind.
