Default October surprise - marijuana decriminalization?

Legalizing pot is always a winning issue, and Biden just took one major step towards that:

President Joe Biden is taking his first major steps toward decriminalizing marijuana, fulfilling a campaign pledge to erase prior federal possession convictions and beginning the process of loosening federal classification of the drug.

It never made any sense to keep pot illegal, and it makes little sense now since a majority of Americans live in states with either legal medical pot or recreational.

The party that legalizes pot is the party that will have an easy time retaining control of government.

Why? Is it because that party figures it's easier to get people who are stoned stupid to vote for them? The Soviets used to hand out vodka to get people to vote for them, maybe this is the same sort of reasoning...

    De-criminalize pot...once and for all.

Criminalizing it is one of the most stupid things government has ever done.

So long as it is stigmatized like tobacco and alcohol and DUI / DWI laws are in place for driving while stoned...

while this, overall, is a good thing, it was downright unconstitutional for the feds to criminalize it in the first place. It was absolutely shameful that most of the country was dumb enough to let them.

If it took a constitutional amendment to prohibit alcohol, and another amendment to make it legal again, how did the fed make marijuana illegal with a law?
A sad commentary on we, as a people, and our viewpoint of our freedom can be summed up like this. We have liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans, yet those very people look at Constitutionalists as radical and extreme.................so those liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans must believe that the constitution is radical and extreme.

Its interesting that we are taking those who use and traffic in Mary Jane out of jail just as we are moving towards putting those who use and traffic in black market (full strength) cigs into jail as the regulators move to remove nicotine from the legal ones, making them nearly useless.

Are blacks going to take the criminalization of menthol cigs obediently?

I am not so sure that they will.

You know, the whole jailing people for minor possession is why so many black people have been put in jail. Studies repeatedly show that white kids are not incarcerated at the same rate as black kids for the same drug offenses, mainly around possession.

Clinton got a black eye for signing 3 Strikes into law and that upped the number of people (mainly black, again) who are now in prison for LIFE because their third strike was a possession rap.

I don't get why pot is illegal and liquor not. Pot is easily equivalent if not less dangerous than alcohol. But we accept that like it's perfectly normal. The biggest value to America of making pot illegal was it allowed America to incarcerate more black men more quickly.

Now, to your rather racist point, if I may: what the fuck are you on about?

That is perfectly reasonable. We currently deal with DWI, so driving while stoned can be put in there as well. I don't know the state of rapid field-deployable pot intoxication detection, but it only makes sense to enforce the same laws the same way.
