That view also was the conception of the Electoral College.

Right on. Humanity by its nature is community oriented and in that altruism is implicit.

    Horse mierda, Marty.

Is Altruism Part of Human Nature? Toward a Theoretical Foundation for the Helping Professions
    Jerome C. Wakefield

    Abstract

"Altruistic goals are at the foundation of social work's humanitarian mission, yet almost all current theories of human motivation suggest that people are essentially egoistic and that altruism is not part of human nature. In this article, I survey the conceptual and theoretical arguments and paradoxes by which scientists, philosophers, and much of the lay public defend an egoistic view of human nature, and I show how such arguments might be overcome to allow for the possibility of altruism."

His error is the assumption that altruism and egoism are inherently antagonistic. The belief that by an altruistic impulse you have made someone safer or happier can satisfy an egoistic desire of making you feel better about yourself.

p.s. Would add that the view Earl and his source express is consistent, however, with tight ass Right wing attitudes.

People in America are too dumb and dangerous. We have seen that since 2016.

Wrong! You cannot make someone altruistic if they choose not to be. The only way to do it is force it on everyone. Did you ever see that Ricky Gervais move, The Invention of Lying? It indirectly makes this argument. In an altruistic world of trust, it only takes one person who isn't to fuck everything up.

Altruism as a universal principle won't work with humans.

I defy you or any of the dummies who thanked you for your drivel to post just ONE quote from one of Chomsky's works that advocates anarchy. If you can't, then you're a perfect doormat for Trump & the current MAGA GOP congress.

“Best known for his revolutionary work in linguistics and cognitive science, ***Noam Chomsky is an avowed anarchist.***It seems a like a contradiction. Anarchy is so often portrayed as chaos for chaos’s sake, a perverse impulse to implode a society that’s the product of thousands of years of social progress. What business does a celebrated thinker have advocating for something that seems so fundamentally thoughtless?”

Avowed"-that has been asserted, admitted, or stated publicly.

    Now, take a hike, pendejo.
Try thinking on your own instead of seeking others OPINION that supports your beliefs.

From the horses mouth. If you don't get it, find an adult with more than a high school G.E.D. to explain it to you:

During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act.

Can't give Dump all the credit. The GOP has been on self destruct since Reagan took office.
