    Does familiarity breed contempt?

The present research shows that although people believe that learning more about others leads to greater liking, more information about others leads, on average, to less liking. Thus, ambiguity—lacking information about another—leads to liking, whereas familiarity—acquiring more information—can breed contempt.

The more I read the posts from these far left Democrat Socialist loons, the more contempt I have for them.

They are waiting and hoping for a catastrophic outcome in Florida so they can criticize the governor.

Now I understand why you never chose to join the military or become a First Responder, Fredo.

I truly believe you have some form of brain damage, Earl. I can't believe a normal USAF officer would hate his own country and fellow Americans as much as you do without a causal factor like a stroke, TBI or mental illness.

That loon trolls all day and night.

Most of us post for a few hours and then leave.

Must be a lonely life for that loon, no friends and no life.

Disagreed, but I do agree it should be the choice of Americans to choose to be a First Responder.

There are safer occupations such as working as a filing clerk, sweeping floors downtown, stocking shelves, etc. I support your choice to be safe.

Hurricane Katrina, the tropical cyclone that struck the Gulf Coast in August 2005, was the third-strongest hurricane to hit the United States in its history at the time. With maximum sustained winds of 175 mph, the storm killed a total of 1,833 people and left millions homeless in New Orleans and along the Gulf Coast of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.
Florida will do a MUCH better job than Louisiana.

We'll know by Friday how much. I'm still thinking at least 100 dead, but won't be surprised if it tops 500. I've been wrong before. It depends on how many people leave and both the strength and water output of Ian.

Conditions that may limit abstract reasoning
Some neurological conditions may interfere with your ability to think abstractly.

    • Autism spectrum disorder. ResearchersTrusted Source have found that some people with autism spectrum disorder may have trouble with concepts and problem-solving.
    • Schizophrenia. Some forms of abstract thinking, particularly those involved in interpreting social situations,Trusted Source may be limited by schizophrenia.
    • Traumatic or organic brain injuries. Injuries from accidents and prenatal exposures, including fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, can impact the areas of the brain that make abstract thinking possible.
    • Intellectual disabilities. Individuals with intellectual impairment often have difficulties using and understanding abstract thinking skills.
    • Dementia. Often the parts of the brain involved in many types of dementia are the same parts that control abstract thinking skills.

In short, by discussing topics with people online, it's relatively simple to identify those who can think abstractly and those who cannot. For those who cannot think abstractly, the curiosity for me is to figure out why.
