Only by the grace of God, because I've seen a slab of concrete thick as shit, with a boat attached to it in somebody's yard. Only by the grace of God....this is what deregulation do, another shitty Gov. De-gusting idea

So, it wasn't a failure of the inherent design of the building but rather shitty property management who failed to keep the building up along with stupid assed condo owners who were penny pinching and wouldn't pony up the cash to keep their property in good repair.

Buildings actually collapse from time to time because their building codes failed. They have some of the lowest sewer connection rates, because their building codes failed. Huge number of houses are just spewing untreated sewerage into the environment, like a third world nation.

Florida is a national disgrace, and we all know it.
This is a trailer park in Ft. Myers. What don't you see?

It is a spectrum. There are the civilized places, below them is Florida(which hopes to get bailed out by the civilized places), below that is Puerto Rico, below that is Mexico, below that is Thailand, below that is South Africa, below that is Nigeria, and below that is Rwanda.
Florida took far less damage for a major, and very serious, storm than Puerto Rico did because they actually enforce building code unlike those other locations.

This event presents an opportunity for everybody that has had doubts about the advent of anthropogenic global warming to come down on the useful side of doing something about it.

Pretty much everything went right for Jacksonville. The storm stayed further south, and when it got into the Atlantic it actually took a hard right away from us. Everything is back up in yard, the rain and win were gone overnight, and most places stayed open. Another bullet dodged. The gulf coast obviously did not get off anywhere near that easy.

I’m very glad the damage was minimal.

Florida's housing insurance was collapsing even before this storm. It has sewer systems worse than Puerto Rico... At about the level of Mexico.

Weather is an expression of climate. You know that.

What is remarkable is the intensity of modern events and their increasing frequency, globally.
