Default NYC promises coordinated effort to enroll more than 1,000 migrant kids in school

New York City education, housing, and immigration officials Friday promised a coordinated, cross-agency effort to enroll more than 1,000 recently arrived migrant children in public school before classes start next month.

The plan, “Project Open Arms,” follows a New York Daily News story detailing concerns from some advocates and staffers that the city wasn’t moving urgently enough to accommodate the influx of new arrivals, many of whom came on buses sent by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott.

“Our city has always stood with those in need of refuge and shelter, and this administration will continue that proud legacy,” schools chancellor David Banks said Friday. “Our schools are ready and excited to welcome our newest New Yorkers to class on September 8.”

NYC does not have an education system, nor do the leaders want there to be one.
This illegal illegitimate regime that runs America is at fault...not me.... they do not represent me and I have long objected to their crimes against humanity.

I think its great that NYC is placing the needs of illegal immigrants above those of the citizens moving out of the city to build a better life for themselves in Florida.....

New York City educates about a million students a year, making it the biggest school system in America. It has some schools that are not all that great, but also has some of the best public schools in the world. It has an amazing history of educating immigrant children. If you are a poor immigrant, and want a great education, head for New York City.

Completely serious. NYC has amazing magnet schools, and extensive mass transit to get students to those magnet schools. If you are smart and hard working in NYC, even if you are poor, you can go far... Which is more than I can say for much of America.

And the FIRST thing that came to mind when this was announced was, "Where was all this for the LOCALS?"

This is what pisses me off about politics....whenever the powers that be want to, money is provided, housing is provided, jobs are provided. Otherwise, it's the usual palm greasing, grafting, back slapping political BS.

It costs $62k to send a kid to Phillips Academy... AND nothing to send a kid to Stuyvesant. The city will even pay for the subway transportation.
