If you say something like, 'Now he can't leave the country,' that requires an act of a court and only after charges are brought and the person deemed a flight risk. Otherwise, it's an illegal seizure of property. It serves no legitimate law enforcement purpose. This is especially true for an expired passport. No purpose whatsoever.

You and me if we block the door and dont let others leave we get put on charges if we are white....did they just prevent him from leaving the country? This is not a property crime because passports dont belong to us....this is more along the lines of imprisonment.

If they took his passports it was from a yet undisclosed court order and because he is a flight risk.

He likely had a diplomatic passport and a regular, I have no idea why he would have a third.
