Donald J. Trump declined to answer questions from the New York state attorney general’s office on Wednesday, a surprising gamble in a high-stakes legal interview that is likely to determine the course of a civil investigation into his company’s business practices.

In a statement released shortly after the questioning began on Wednesday, Mr. Trump said he would invoke his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination, explaining that he “declined to answer the questions under the rights and privileges afforded to every citizen under the United States Constitution.”

Like the Declaration of Independence's "unalienable rights" a lot of our freedoms are implied. Too many fucking morons on both the Left and the Right, meaning the anti-freedom authoritarian assholes, believe the Constitution gives us our rights. You and I both know it limits the powers of the Federal government and the States.

Some of our constitutional rights prohibit the government from infringing on those rights. Others, however, require the government to act positively to provide those rights--trial by jury, speedy trial, right to counsel (providing attorney), subpoena witnesses, grand jury indictment...

The right to not testify against oneself is prevalent in just about every democracy.
