    Default “Gun Violence in America”

“Compared to much of the developed world, America is a murderous country. The U.S. homicide rate is three times that of Canada, five of France, 26 of Japan. There are more guns in America today than there are people.”

“Amid the stream of mass shootings that have become chillingly commonplace in America, the reality of the nation’s staggering murder rate can often be seen more clearly in the deaths that never make national news.”

“Most gun violence in America is related to seemingly ordinary disputes that spin out of control and someone goes for a gun. Often, the victim and the shooter know one another. They are co-workers and acquaintances, siblings and neighbors. They are killed in farming villages, small towns and crowded cities.”

“The data on firearm killings is woefully incomplete, with just over 60% of the country’s law enforcement agencies reporting crime statistics to the FBI’s national database. The FBI collects nationwide crime data, participation is voluntary on the federal level and thousands of law enforcement agencies send nothing or partial information. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention does a careful count of homicides, but its data on each death is limited.”

“Homicides are often associated with big cities like Chicago, where police say the majority of killings have some tie to gang rivalries, which in recent years often fester on social media before spilling into the streets. But while Chicago’s homicide rate is high, with nearly 800 killings in the city of 2.7 million last year, its rate per capita is lower than many smaller cities.”

Amazing that in 2022 we still don’t even have a handle on understanding gun violence, nor even a complete source on gun violence statistics.

Fairly obvious we can thank the gun manufacturers via of the NRA via the Republican Party for that stupidity

Specifically, what laws would have prevented these tragedies?

It's fairly obvious that it is MORONIC to blame the NRA and Republican Party for the acts of an obvious mental case in a Democratically controlled state and city.

Again, what laws would have prevented this tragedy?

Did you know there was a recent mall shooting in Copenhagen Denmark? The Danish man suspected in Sunday’s onslaught obtained the rifle and another gun illegally. He was also known to mental health providers in Denmark, https://nypost.com/2022/07/04/no-evi...thorities-say/

What laws would have prevented that?

A sad commentary on we, as a people, and our viewpoint of our freedom can be summed up like this. We have liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans, yet those very people look at Constitutionalists as radical and extreme.................so those liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans must believe that the constitution is radical and extreme.

Here we go again, question as dumb as Ailito saying limiting concealed weapons in NY didn’t stop Buffalo. Tell us, what law is going to prevent the next auto theft? bank robbery? cheating on one’s taxes? Etc.?

What ever it is, we don’t have it now, but at least an understanding and knowing the real statistics of gun violence would be a help in addressing the problem

And now “copy and paste” will return with, “you don’t know” or some corny copy and paste

    Alright then, you tell us.

How do we stop the mass shootings? What would YOU do?
What kind of country have we become?

One in which federal prosecutors can take “evidence” before a “grand jury,”

and that grand jury can “vote to indict” a former president for 91 alleged “crimes”?

The US has a couple of large minority groups that the majority of murders are coming from. That isn't true of Canada France or Japan. https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s...ta-table-6.xls

About 140 people are killed each year in mass shooting far far more people die in drunk driving and other alcohol related deaths. Maybe we should have a booze ban and save more lives.

Prayer in school. Elect Republicans. No qualifications of 2nd Amendment. Make abortion illegal in every state.

Making up numbers and using them as data is a fallacy, dude.

Since you are defining any conflict as a 'mass shooting', you are just pissing in the wind, so to speak. No, you can't ban or limit guns.

This is called a special pleading fallacy. You are only concentrating on gun homicides, rather than homicides. You are making up numbers even in that discussion.

The CDC does not track this information. The FBI does. Every police report of homicide is reported to the FBI.

So you want to minimize and ignore gang warfare in places like Chicago. Gotit.

No, you cant' blame the NRA or gun manufacturers or gun owners that aren't out shooting up schools and parades.
    Bigotry.
You can't ban or limit guns. That is unconstitutional.

not dumb, we want to see what draconian levels you are willing to resort to here.

Nobody suggests we ban certain vehicles or bill denominations as a solution - that idiocy is all on your side
