You may very well be on to something. The M16 has been the primary infantry weapon since before Vietnam. The AR15 looks just like the M16 thus these mentally disturbed and low self esteem people can own one and instantly become a RAMBO (oh there are numerous reasons for it's popularity, other than the above). That explains the popularity of the weapon. As to the rate of fire all semiautomatic rifles are close to each other the differance is the clip capacity.

I don't think the weapon makes a much of a difference when someone goes off the deep end. We need to address the reasons why these people are driven to commit such evil and guns are not the reason just the tool.

One thing worthy of notation is- the Constitution does not limit the number of SUPREME COURT justices to 9.
