Default After Sievierodonetsk, Russians move on Lysychansk

Russia bears down on Lysychansk, targeting police and judicial buildings
Moscow’s troops move on to city neighbouring Sievierodonetsk, after capturing all but chemical plant there

Sievierodonetsk and its neighbouring city, Lysychansk, continue to be battered by intense Russian shelling as Moscow edges closer to seizing the last pocket of resistance in Ukraine’s eastern Luhansk region.

Luhansk’s governor, Serhiy Haidai, said on Wednesday that Russian forces were moving towards Lysychansk, targeting the buildings of police, state security and prosecutors.

“Lysychansk is constantly suffering from enemy fire … Massive shelling significantly destroyed infrastructure and housing,” Haidai said in a post on Telegram

Sievierodonetsk is also shelled “every day”, he added.

Ukrainian officials have said that the coming days will be decisive in Russia’s efforts to take Sievierodonetsk, as fears in Kyiv grow that Russian advances could envelop the entire region.

Russia is now believed to control all of Sievierodonetsk with the exception of the Azot chemical plant, where about 500 Ukrainian citizens and an unknown number of Ukrainian troops are hiding.

Key Ukrainian city under ‘massive’ Russian bombardment

“Massive” Russian bombardment of Ukraine’s battleground eastern Lugansk region Severodonetsk has been “hell” for soldiers there, Luhansk Governor said Wednesday, while insisting that defenders would hold on “as long as necessary”.

“The Russian army is… just destroying everything” in Lysychansk, Serhiy Haidai, which includes both cities, wrote on Telegram.

“It’s just hell out there,” after four months of shelling in Severodonetsk, across the Donets river, he wrote later. “Our boys are holding their positions and will continue to hold on as long as necessary,” he added.

I suggest that the billions of dollars worth of US armaments sent to Ukraine are in a siding somewhere in Charleston. After all , the dealers don't care a hoot once they've been paid and the government gets kudos for sending it , not for if it ever arrives. Same goes for European kit.

Ukraine-Russia live news: Luhansk battle enters ‘fearsome climax’
Zelenskyy’s adviser says fighting in Severodonetsk and Lysychansk is at a turning point

Fight for Severodonetsk and Lysychansk entering ‘fearsome climax’: Advisor
The fight for the twin cities of Severodonetsk and Lysychansk is “entering a sort of fearsome climax”, an advisor to Zelenskyy, Oleksiy Arestovych, has said, as Russian forces intensify their push to take the Donbas.

The governor of Luhansk has said Russian forces captured another two villages on Wednesday: Loskutivka, about 25km south of Lysychansk and Rai-Oleksandrivka, about 60km southwest of Lysychansk (closer to the towns of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk).

no they are getting there. there is still training going on for some systems. Germany has finally ponied up some rocket defense, and long range highly mobile artillery

It's going to be the best NATO weapons
for our bestest proxy war (and to please Zekensky) vs more Russian pieces and manpower advantage

Slug it out boys! Biden's got your back. we got all you want

Russia has launched widespread shelling and airstrikes, Ukraine officials say
Bombardments reported in the north and east, with focus on Lysychansk and Sievierodonetsk

Ukraine said on Friday that its troops had been ordered to retreat from Sievierodonetsk, a key battleground city, because there was very little left to defend after weeks of intense fighting.

“During the last days, an operation was conducted to withdraw our troops,” Kharatin Starskyi, the press officer of a national guard brigade, said on Saturday.

Starskyi, who had been in Sievierodonetsk, told morning television that the flow of information about the withdrawal had been delayed to protect troops on the ground. The retreat marks the biggest reversal for Ukraine since the loss of the southern port of Mariupol in May.

So what happens when there's nowhere left to withdraw to ? The surrender that should have happened hundreds of thousands of corpses ago ?

    Zelensky's not a hero- he's a NATO-pumped butcher.

Russia pushes to block off city of Lysychansk, says Ukraine
Moscow launches massive artillery bombardments and airstrikes on eastern city, after Sievierodonetsk destroyed

Russian forces are trying to cut off the strategic twin city of Lysychansk in eastern Ukraine, having reduced Sievierodonetsk to rubble.

Lysychansk is set to become the next main focus of fighting, as Moscow has launched massive artillery bombardments and airstrikes on areas far from the heart of the eastern battles.

Natalia Tkachuk, 40, and her daughter Anastasia, 11, shelter from Russian shelling inside the Heroiv Pratsi underground station in the Kharkiv suburb of Saltivka.

According to Russia’s Interfax news agency, Russian troops entered Lysychansk, the last city held by Kyiv in Luhansk province, on Saturday after Ukrainian forces were ordered to withdraw from Sievierodonetsk.

If Lysychansk falls, the entire region of Luhansk, which along with Donetsk makes up the eastern Donbas region, could fall under Russian control, marking another strategic breakthrough for the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, since the beginning of the invasion.

“The people’s militia of the Luhansk People’s Republic and the Russian army have entered the city of Lysychansk,” Andrei Marochko, a representative for pro-Russian separatists, said on Telegram. “Street fighting is currently taking place,” he added.

The claim could not be independently verified and there was no immediate comment from the Ukrainian side.

Moscow says strikes pound training centers in northern, western Ukraine, denies targeting civilians

Moscow says strikes by Russian forces have pounded military training centers in northern and western Ukraine, denying that its forces are targeting civilians.

On Sunday, the Kremlin said troops had carried out strikes against three military training centers, including one in the vicinity of the Polish border, just two days ahead of a NATO summit in Madrid, Spain.

In a statement, Russia’s Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said the bombings were carried out with “high-precision weapons of Russia’s aerospace forces and Kalibr missiles.”

After the strikes, several Ukrainian brigades "completely lost their combat capabilities," Konashenkov said, adding that "plans to deploy them in combat zones were thwarted."

Regional governor calls for civilians to evacuate Lysychansk

Serhai Haidai, Ukraine’s governor of Luhansk, has called on civilians to evacuate the eastern Ukrainian city, saying that the situation is “very difficult”.

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/li...s-on-kyiv-live
About time a Ukrainian showed some sense.

Russian-backed separatists said they were pushing into Lysychansk, the last major city still held by Ukrainian troops in eastern Luhansk province. Lysychansk’s twin city of Sievierodonetsk fell on Saturday in a victory for Moscow’s campaign to seize the eastern provinces of Luhansk and Donetsk on behalf of pro-Russian separatists. Serhai Haidai, Ukraine’s governor of Luhansk, has called on civilians to evacuate Lysychansk, saying that the situation is “very difficult”.
Russia stepped up air strikes on Ukraine over the weekend, including on the capital while the strategic eastern city of Sievierodonetsk fell to pro-Russian forces. There had been no major strikes on Kyiv since early June.

Russia-Ukraine live news: ‘No safe place’ in Lysychansk

Russia is relentlessly shelling the eastern city, as its forces storm the main oil refinery, Luhansk Governor Serhiy Haidai says.

Those disorganized, equipment-starved, deserting, officer-free, blunder-prone Russians are still retreating in the wrong direction.

Can I ask JPP's keyboard Zelenskies what happened to their victory ?

Russia-Ukraine live news: Ukraine separatists encircle Lysychansk

Andrei Marotchko, a spokesman for the separatist forces, says Luhansk popular militia and Russian forces occupied last strategic heights.

Ukrainian separatists backed by Russia say they have “completely” encircled the key city of Lysychansk in the eastern Luhansk region.
Russian forces have destroyed five Ukrainian army command posts in Donbas and Mykolaiv regions with high-precision weapons and also struck three storage sites in the Zaporizhia region, the defence ministry says.
The mayor of Ukrainian city Mykolaiv warns residents to stay in shelters as powerful explosions rock the city.

Russians take Lysychansk. They now control all of the Luhansk region.

    Where next ?

If Russia does take complete control of Luhansk, it will be better positioned for an offensive on Donetsk, with the Ukrainian-held city of Sloviansk, which has come under rocket attacks several times since Russia’s invasion began, likely the next target.

Don't fret- with the billions of dollars-worth of weaponry that NATO is going to send them the Zelenskies are going to make the Russians advance backwards.

President Volodymyr Zelensky pledged that Ukrainian forces would return to Lysychansk thanks to their tactics and "thanks to the increase in the supply of modern weapons".
