The news has talking heads regurgitating the "45,000 gun violence deaths" while forgetting to mention that almost 2/3s of those deaths are single-shot suicides. They obviously don't give a shit about the suicides that don't use a firearm.

In 2020, the most recent year for which complete data is available, 45,222 people died from gun-related injuries in the U.S., according to the CDC. That figure includes gun murders and gun suicides, along with three other, less common types of gun-related deaths tracked by the CDC: those that were unintentional, those that involved law enforcement and those whose circumstances could not be determined. The total excludes deaths in which gunshot injuries played a contributing, but not principal, role. (CDC fatality statistics are based on information contained in official death certificates, which identify a single cause of death.)

    Thanks Trump!
Yep, Trump made it easier for the mentally ill to own firearms. Any time legislation comes along to prevent the mentally ill from getting guns, conservatives complain that vets with PTSD won't be able to get them, or that anyone can just label a conservative as mentally ill (which is making more sense by the day, btw).

Yet the fucking Democrats think they can get a gun ban bill passed? This is a medical issue, specifically mental health.

Yes, Obama wanted to ban guns from vets with PTSD. That wasn't the problem; the problem was that there was little to no effective means to get off that list.

Consider this scenario: A college student's roommate is killed road surfing and becomes depressed. He seeks treatment and, per the law, is put on a list to not own or possess a gun. 40 years later he's a successful, retired business man who never had any further mental health issues and wants to buy a .22 rifle to take his grandson squirrel hunting. He finds he's blocked from owning a firearm. IMO, that's not justice.

Secondly, if we're going to ban people from owning guns, shouldn't we ban them from voting and driving cars?

obviously if owning guns were illegal this would never have happened.......people who kill 19 second graders would never break the law, would they?......

Then why not amend the EO with an appeals process or a clear path to medical clearance after examination? Trump just undid the whole thing and put us back to square one.

Our country should not have these shootings. Either it's a mental illness issue, or a gun issue, or both. In any case, conservatives won't do jack shit about any of it, and they'll actively prevent anyone from trying.

Agreed. Why didn't Obama offer that?

It's a mental illness issue. If not a gun, then chain the doors shut and burn down the entire school, make propane bombs, drive a loaded truck (mass) through a crowd, etc.

The problem is sick people harming others. The Democratic solution is to punish all the innocent people out of fear.

Unfortunately, both the Democrats and the Republicans are heavy on federalism and light on freedom for all. They just disagree on how to subjugate Americans to their own advantage.

A sad commentary on we, as a people, and our viewpoint of our freedom can be summed up like this. We have liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans, yet those very people look at Constitutionalists as radical and extreme.................so those liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans must believe that the constitution is radical and extreme.

Obviously there are problems with the system since Ramos bought two and Dylann Roof leaked through.
