Default Louisiana about to impose road tax on EV's

The state government of Louisiana says EV's and hybrids aren't paying their fair share of road use taxes mostly paid by gasoline sales. The legislature there just passed a bill that will impose a tax of $110 annually on an EV and $60 on a hybrid for road use. So, on top of paying more for your car, you get no tax break from not using gasoline...

ROFLMAO I love it when people try to turn the clock back. The buggy whip manufacturers hated automobiles. Should we return to horses?

Difference. Your analogy is wrong and amounts to nothing but a thought terminating cliche. There is ZERO technological reason we need to go to battery cars. The ONLY reason they are being pushed is political environmentalism, almost entirely from the Left. That's it. There is no inherent advantage in a EV over a ICE car. If anything, environmentalism aside, EV's are at a disadvantage to ICE vehicles in most respects.

So, for what reason(s) should we adopt EV's other than because of the demands of radical environmentalists?

Well, it sure doesn't help that Biden just cancelled two oil and gas leasing bids in Louisiana. That's on top of the ones he cancelled in Alaska...

EV's have tremendous advantages over the combustion engine, but then again we shouldn't expect any brilliance from the lady who told us, about million deaths ago, that Covid was no different than the common cold,

    Let's see. They list these:

Less maintenance Not true. Tesla is one of the least reliable cars on the road.

Telsa vehicles are not very reliable. In fact, Tesla ranks at the bottom in most categories when it comes to reliability.
    https://luxurycarsa2z.com/is-tesla-a...20and%20safety.

High-level performance at a comparatively cheaper price

Not true either. EV's generally cost more than comparable ICE cars do.

Easy to drive No easier or harder to drive than an ICE vehicle. This is just a non sequitur.

Quiet ride and less noise pollution Barely.

When compared with an internal combustion engine car (ICE), electric vehicles (EV) are **4-5 dB less noisy **when both are driven at low speeds.
Under 20 mph, ICE and EVs are so quiet, that it’s hard to notice too much of a difference. However, EVs _are _about 2-4 dB quieter than their gas-powered counterparts.
    https://getjerry.com/questions/how-m...-electric-cars

Higher efficiency Vague to the point of meaningless. Higher efficiency than what and in what ways?

Off-road capabilities Bullshit! There is no advantage in an EV in off-road capability.

Federal Tax Credit This is not something related to the vehicle itself, it's just getting OPM in the form of a government bribe to buy one.

Access to High-Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes Another bribe by the government not related to the vehicle.

Lower ownership costs Actually, this is a lie. It costs more to own an EV over the life of the vehicle

    https://insideevs.com/news/586195/te...s%202020%20TCO

Better for the environment Again, not an innate advantage over an ICE vehicle unless you happen to give a shit about the environment.

They cannot enforce that with visitors. The tax will no doubt be added to your registration cost.

Most manufacturers list respectable tow ratings for their EV trucks. Rivian, for instance, says the R1T can pull 11,000 pounds. Properly equipped, Ford says, an F-150 Lighting can tow 10,000.
