Taiwan is a heavily defended island, that is a military challenge orders more difficult than sending Russian tanks down the highway into neighboring Ukraine.

USA forces would engage China directly in a Taiwanese invasion.

China does not have a good track record in offensive warfare. The completely outgunned Vietnamese defeated a Chinese invasion in 1979, and even though China was practically fighting on it's home turf in the Korean peninsula, the United States projected it's power from seven thousand miles away and easily fought the Chinese to a draw.
