Default Are you concerned about replacement?

According to polling data about a third of Republicans are concerned about the possibility that due to immigration and birth rates traditionally American European culture will be replaced by other growing currently minority cultures in the United States.

Are you actively concerned about this? If so, why? And what would you have be done about it?

Not a worried a bit. In fact, I encourage it. Cultures evolve. Those that stagnate die. It's the way of the world.

A major reason the United States thrived over "the old country" was exactly for that reason: taking the best every culture had to offer and putting it into the Great American Melting Pot. Now the racists have been allowed to put a stop to that idea and our nation faces stagnation and devolution.

God bless America and those who defend our Constitution.

    I agree 100%.

I would also add that holding tightly to the past, and the way things used to be, holds us back from a brighter future.

So, you limit conservatism to pure economics? Really? You seem very conservative socially also...

There was a time, a few decades ago, when America’s citizens did not lock their cars or their homes. There was no out of control crime or inflation or borders. No food shortages.

Your brighter future has been dimmed to a flicker as far left Democrat Socialists slowly but surely, destroy America.

Agreed. Moving forward in unity is always better. Those that divide us only serve their political parties.

I remember the 1970's waiting in line for 3 hours to get 5 gallons of rationed gas. I was a kid in my mothers back seat, but I remember it.

Are you saying this is due to cultural replacement?

I think it's awesome. When I compare where I grew up -- all whites all the time, no "ethnic" people allowed -- to now, now is so much more rich and interesting with diversity. Even in this little predominantly-white community we can find Asian/Thai, Mexican, Finnish, and Greek restaurants, as well as stores that offer indigenous foods. My campus is a melting pot of humanity. Where we used to live was even more diverse. Going to the world market was so much fun -- foods from around the world (some of them fairly terrifying lol), hearing different languages spoken in different aisles, the International Festivals held annually, etc.

I simply cannot understand why some ppl find it so difficult to celebrate the wonder that is America -- that we truly ARE so awesome that people from around the world come here to live.

Another one who cannot stay on topic. This isn't about economics, Jethro. It's about racism vs diversity. Let me guess -- you're one of the fearful 30%, aren't you?

No, I encourage it! I hope the human race all end up being caramel colored, so then they can find something else besides skin tone to hate each other over.

A planet of carmel-tinted atheists sounds like Utopia. lol

But no doubt they'll find something else to fight over.

this is your racist framing of the fact that rampant immigration drives down wages, and takes resources from current citizens.

it's not a race issue, and many non-white people also share this concern.

this is why trump surges amongs latinos and blacks too.

The funny thing is how very old that paranoia is. If we went back 150 years or so, there'd be the same paranoia about replacement, only instead of brown people being the source of fear, it would be the new wave of European immigrants who were gradually supplanting the old English stock. The Italians, Germans, and especially the Irish were seen as ruining the national character with their strange, foreign ways and their exotic religions (Catholicism and Lutheranism). Heck, go back far enough and you can find similar sentiments even among early waves of English protestant immigrants. If, say, you were descended from the first wave of Puritan settlers in the Plymouth colony, a second wave of immigrants, like Quaker Mary Dyer, seemed like enough of a threat to literally be hanged for it. Some things never change. Conservatism is a form of cowardice --irrational fear of change-- and it goes through the same motions, generation after generation, never learning.
