Default Half of the Kyiv population has left the city.

Half of Kyiv population has fled, says Ukrainian capital’s mayor
Russian forces have reached the north-eastern edge of the city amid heavy battles for control of the main highway.

Ukrainians crowd under a destroyed bridge as they try to flee by crossing the Irpin River on the outskirts of Kyiv

Nearly two million people have fled the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv’s mayor has said, as Russian forces advance on the city.

“From our information, one in two Kyiv residents has left the city,” Vitali Klitschko told Ukraine television on Thursday.

Maybe the Russians will hold back longer until the rest have left.

Let's hope so. Women and children just get in the way when the fighting starts. And, when the Power and Water get turned off, they complain about being cold and hungry.

Even if the West were to spend lavishly, which is expected, it would take a decade to rebuild Ukraine after Russia gets done with it. The people being spread far and wide helps with the infliction of pain, which is the mission.

Speaking from personal experience? Maybe if you'd get a job so you could pay your family's bills your wife and kids wouldn't be cold and hungry. They might even stop fighting with you.

    Just a thought.

Or, maybe the neo-Nazi white supremacist militia will shoot them and blame someone else to gin up support. They did something like that before, didn't they?

It would be interesting to know how much food is left in Kiev.

I have seen reports that food in desperately short in some cities, and I wander what the situation is in Kiev.

The Russian military was decisively defeated in the Battle of Kyiv, and had to beat a hasty retreat back to Belarus

Hawkeye says that was the plan from the beginning. The Russians were going to be decisively defeated, losing huge number of troops and resources, and looking like complete fools as part of their plan to secretly support Ukraine... Or something bizarre like that.

And yet Ukraine gets smaller every day. How is it that Russian retreats make Ukraine smaller ?

You are so very wrong again. The mighty Russian military has been shown to be 3rd rate at best.
