Default It’s time to challenge the right wing’s radical schools agenda

The right wing is invoking the slogan of “parental control” to rationalize imposing a radical agenda on schools. Its ideas reflect not the wishes or interests of the vast majority of parents but a narrow, ideological worldview rooted in culture wars and censorship.

Middle-of-the-road parents should unite with progressives in standing up to this dangerous campaign. Their shared purpose is not some flight of leftist fantasy, but to endorse propositions rooted in common sense and good pedagogy.

It is quite obvious you do not have children. Even worse it is quite obvious your parents failed you.

So, who do you propose should decide such things? Maybe "experts" in Dirty City who have degrees and never stepped foot in a classroom? What do you consider "good pedagogy?" Is Critical Pedagogy a good teaching method? Is Common Core a good method to teach subjects?

The trend in the last 5-8 years has been to try to insert alt-RWers in school boards and other local entities. Even in the very bright blue area where we lived back in STL, we had to reject an uber conservative home-schooling mom who ran for school board. She wanted prayer returned, she did not want the district to provide kids with computers because they don't need those, she wanted creationism taught along with normal biology. She lost. But someday, someone else like her will win, and then another, and another. And that school district, which consistently ranks at the very top of all public school districts in the state, will succumb to trash status.

There are crazies on both extremes of the political spectrum, but let me ask you this: How many public schools are named from some paragon on the uber conservative Right (to use your term) teaching the stuff you point out above today? Then, compare that to, How many public schools have "Social" and / or "Economic Justice" in their official name or are named after radical Leftists and teach a curriculum based in whole or part on radical Leftist ideas like social and economic justice, critical pedagogy, political activism, and the like?

How many of each can you easily find in a quick search on the internet say?

I'm guessing very few have those boogeymen things in their names OR their curricula. The problem with today's RW is you all have been radicalized to believe that any teaching of history that includes our nation's dealings with people of color is some evil leftist plot. Answer your own question with that in mind.

Has there ever been a Revolution that allowed the parents to decide what the schools teach?

    I tend to doubt it.
I choose my own words like the Americans of olden times........before this dystopia arrived.

Type in "Social justice high school" and see what you get of the 10 to 30 million hits on that. They include:

    https://sj.lvlhs.org/
    https://www.schools.nyc.gov/schools/X427
    https://summer.sas.upenn.edu/program...social-justice
    https://novahs.seattleschools.org/st...ocial-justice/
    https://www.xrds.org/educational-pro...social-justice
    https://www.nea.org/advocating-for-c...school-matters

I can find dozens upon dozens of schools that use "social justice" either in their official title, or prominently display it as part of their mission statement. The teacher's unions are no different.

Curricula? I can pull that up by the truckload too.

Teaching history should be about teaching factual history, warts and all, not a fictionalized political version like say, The 1619 Project, or using a cherry picked politicalized version like Howard Zinn's A People's History of the United States where facts are few and far between.

So, I have long answered my questions already. It is the Left, THE LEFT, that is shoving bullshit propaganda and lies down student's throats every goddamned day in many of our public schools. For every radical Right wing nutter wanting creationism taught there are at least 100 radical Leftist teachers and administrators already actually teaching their radical factless bullshit to our kids every fucking day.

    How's that for blunt?

Actually all you've done is repeat (probably nearly verbatim) scheiss that you've read on alt-right pages. What are you all so terrified of? That kids will learn that the United States, while still outstanding, is not the perfect, exceptional, myth you want them to believe in? Are you afraid that once white kids are a minority, the kids who aren't white are going to treat them like shit because they were taught about "social justice"?

I was thinking the exact same thing, and if it does have kids, will they make it past 25 with that kind of influence?

No, kids will be radicalized to one political ideal, rather than given facts and let make up their own minds. That's where these radical Leftist schools, and teachers, are taking them. When what they get in lessons is part propaganda, part lies, and part fantasy, they aren't getting an education, they are getting an indoctrination. That is already in place and happening across the US. Some crazy teaching creationism gets fired in short order. But some crazy teacher giving class credit to go to a radical Leftist protest and participate is just fine...

I was a good high school student. But honestly, I never gave a shit about what any teacher said.

Majority of "middle of the road parents" don't have the time nor desire to attend school board meetings to stand there and shout absurdities at people who are largely there only as a part time position to help the community.

Interesting how the right wing media is now focusing on the issue and the vocal school board meetings, seems like one is on Fox daily, pretty obvious their intent is to they orchestrate another 2010 with the wacko mothers replacing the tea party at all the community meetings

I'm done. You believe truly false things, in your quest to destroy our educational system. The *last* thing ANY Reichwinger wants are students who question what they are taught so that they "can make up their own minds." You sound like an ad writer for Fox, actually. Just like Fox, you want kids taught white-washed -- pun fully intended -- versions of current events and American history. You want them to learn bullshit like Creationism so they can "make up their minds" if evolution is real or not. You want to make sure that gay/trans kids stay closeted by forbidding any information regarding those folks.

    You fascists will not win.
