Default Mitch McConnell says Black people vote just as much as 'Americans'

U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is trending on Twitter after making an insidious comment related to voting rights, in which he implied African Americans are not Americans.

After a vote to move the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to the Senate floor failed Wednesday, McConnell was asked by a reporter about concerns among voters of color.

"Well the concern is misplaced, because if you look at the statistics, African American voters are voting in just as high a percentage as Americans," McConnell responded.

A 19-second clip of the exchange was posted to Twitter late Wednesday and has been viewed nearly 1 million times.

McConnell's slip is what we all know is happening w/ the GOP.

They're not dog-whistling anymore. They're just saying it.

It's kind of par for the course in partisan politics. One person says something wrong or misspeaks and the other side jumps on it, then the offending side points out what the other side has said previously.

I believe what McConnel was clearly trying to say is that black voters have voted at the same percentage, or higher, as other racial groups in the country. Now it's possible attempted suppression can be occurring while they are still voting at a higher percentage. However trying to proclaim Jim Crow Part 2 when the data shows black people voting at the rate they are has a lot less credibility.

GOP: Just because the leader of our party, Trump, is a racist does not mean we are racists. Just because our members make racist comments does not make us racists. Just because the policies we advocate are racist does not make us racists. Just because.....

this was only a slip if you are a drooling retard unable to read and comprehend English

African Americans are a subset of Americans.

he pointed out how a subset vote at the same rate as the whole - which destroys the narrative that the subset are not getting a fair shot to vote

And yet when the supreme court rescinded the voting rights act, the southern cracka states made a stampede to change their voting laws

Designed to enforce the voting rights guaranteed by the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments to the United States Constitution, the Act sought to secure the right to vote for racial minorities throughout the country, especially in the South.

How Voting Laws Suppress the ‘New South’
GOP-backed proposals to restrict voting are steadily gaining traction across the Sun Belt, aiming to slow the effects of ongoing demographic shifts that favor Democrats.
