BBC asks: Has the United States become ungovernable?

A year on, however, that plea for national unity sounds more like magical thinking. Far from coming together, the United States is in an even more perilous state of disunion. Often it feels as if the only thing that unites the nation is mutual loathing. America seems to be engaged in a forever war with itself.

The United States is congenitally almost ungovernable. Ethnic, racial and religious biases and jealousies that percolated in the "melting pot" along with rivalries between states have had us at each others throats since the founding except when threats from abroad closed the gaps for lesser and longer periods of time. What's going on now is a puzzle, at least to me. I don't see what the huge disagreement is or whatever else is behind the discord that came with the rise of Trump and still is with us.

Overall, I kind of agree. But I think there are many causes.

For example, in 1980, Reagan called the government the enemy. This from a man who spent a near lifetime in government.

We just need a transformational leader.

Those aren't easy to come by - but it's possible.

I don't. I like Biden, but he's more of a caretaker right now. He's not a transformational kind of leader.

Obama was. I often wish Obama had been Prez during the pandemic. We'd be a much different, more stable & prosperous country today.

Well, we disagree. Obama was a failure, just another conservative giving the keys of the government to the oligarchy.
