Default MYC brings back the opium den

Bill DeBlasio, the worst politician in America, has started opening "Overdose Prevention Centers" in NYC. These are 'clinics' where drug addicts can go to shoot up whatever using government provided syringes, and other medical supplies all under medical supervision. It is essentially a modern version of the old opium den.

Rhode Island wants to follow suit as do San Francisco (no surprise there) and Philadelphia.

Oh, these opium dens also provide optional counseling and social services if the addict wants to use them...

New York City Health Commissioner Dr. Dave A. Chokshi. "Giving people a safe, supportive space will save lives and bring people in from the streets, improving life for everyone involved. Overdose prevention centers are a key part of broader harm reduction."
    https://www.cnn.com/2021/11/30/us/ne...ers/index.html

    https://www.npr.org/2021/11/30/10549...tion-sites-nyc

So, rather than try to end addiction, NYC and others are now going to make it safer to be an addict for a lifetime at taxpayer expense by opening opium dens.

The inmates are running the asylum.

A typo but it could be Moron Yuge City or something...

Anyway, society should never, ever, encourage a really bad lifestyle choice which is what this does. Yes illegal drug use and deaths from that are a huge problem. The way you fix that isn't by making it easier and safer to be a drug addict.

So what do you propose that will stop the epidemic?

"harm reduction" in terms of drug use
    https://americanaddictioncenters.org/harm-reduction
Harm reduction acknowledges that many people will continue to abuse drugs and engage in other dangerous behaviors despite prevention efforts. It also accepts that many people are unwilling or unable to seek treatment. But while some people who use substances may not necessarily require treatment,
it is helpful for them to be aware of resources that can help minimize harm from their drug use.

Not sure entirely. One thing that would definitely help is bringing back mental institutions and getting the crazies off the street. Another would be finding pathways to gainful employment of the homeless. This is primarily a crisis among single, surplus, men to society. In the past conflict (war) and less than safe working conditions were two means to keep this population down. As of late both have largely vanished from society.

    Something like this

It is unconstitutional to lock them up. So you are against this short term attempt because you think it makes them worse? BTW it has been successful in Portugal.
