DirecTV declines to renew OAN contract
DirectTV has declined to renew its contract with One America News Network (OAN), a far-right outlet favored by former President Trump.
DirecTV, which is owned by AT&T Inc. and TPG Inc., told The Hill they have notified Herring Networks Inc., the owner of OAN, that the contract between network and the service provider will not be renewed.
"We informed Herring Networks that, following a routine internal review, we do not plan to enter into a new contract when our current agreement expires," DirecTV said in a statement.
A person familiar with the matter told Bloomberg the contract will expire in early April.
The end of the contract could dramatically effect the network - DirecTV is its largest distributor. Verizon Fios and smaller carries have maintained OAN, and it is available to stream online through KloudTV.

DirecTV has lost millions of customers on AT&T's watch, and is valued in the deal at just $16.25 billion, including debt.
Private equity firm TPG will own 30% of the business, while AT&T holds the rest. The telecom company will receive $7.8 billion in cash, including $1.8 billion from TPG and and $5.8 billion from the new DirecTV firm, which is borrowing that sum. The new DirecTV will also take on $200 million in debt from AT&T.

AT&T’s massive customer losses
In one period of just over four years, AT&T lost more than 9.5 million customers from its Premium TV services division, which includes DirecTV satellite, U-verse wireline video, and the newer AT&T TV online service. The category decreased from over 25 million subscribers in Q1 2017 to 15.4 million halfway through 2021. AT&T continually raised prices and eliminated promotional deals as the company sought a higher average revenue per customer but fell from first place to third in total TV subscribers.
DirecTV's value rapidly declined under AT&T's stewardship, as the company reported a $15.5 billion impairment charge in January 2021. AT&T last month said the DirecTV/TPG deal will lower AT&T's expected revenue for the remainder of 2021 by $9 billion. The DirecTV deal will also lower AT&T's expected EBITDA (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization) by $1 billion.
