"Cumulative" means it is not being repaired. If it were repaired, it would not be cumulative.

It is still early, and we are not sure yet, but there is preliminary evidence that some damage is cumulative, and not repairable. This is an incredibly bad sign.

Asbestos is perfectly fine as long as you don't raise a bunch of dust removing it because you're afraid of it. One should wear an N95 mask when working with asbestos and it's dust.
