The first week of January is NOT a really busy time for the accounting profession because the fiscal year doesn't start or end on Jan 1, most W-2's for taxes don't get sent out until the END of January, and most 1099's and other forms aren't sent until February.

The first week of January is probably the LEAST BUSIEST time of year for accounting because none of the W-2's have been sent (those usually get sent at the end of the month), nor have any 1099's (those usually get sent at the end of February), ALSO the FY doesn't start in January.
