Destruction of Palestinian homes in East Jerusalem goes to ICC
Israel is taken to the International Criminal Court as it continues to demolish Palestinian homes in the occupied territories.



Nine people were injured and journalists were attacked by Israeli security forces this week as the Jerusalem Municipality demolished a two-story building and home of the Karameh family in the East Jerusalem suburb of Abu Tor on the pretext of being constructed without a building permit.

The family of 15 was forcibly evicted by Israeli police while six of those injured required hospitalisation, according to the Red Crescent. Hundreds of Palestinians are facing forced expulsion from homes in East Jerusalem, which Palestinians want to be their future capital.

What is perhaps most alarming as Israeli settler violence reaches unprecedented levels is that this is not only being largely ignored by the US Biden administration, but also by most of the Western media outlets, writes Robert Inlakesh.



Israeli settler violence led to what would become an 11-day war between Gaza and Israel in May, resulting in 270 Palestinians and 13 Israelis being killed. Over 250 US Rabbis Demand End of Jewish Settler Violence in Palestine



Following an escalation of settler violence against Palestinian civilians throughout the occupied West Bank, a North American rabbinic human rights group issued a letter to express their concerns to the US Israeli Embassy.

The letter, a copy of which was received by the Palestine Chronicle, was issued by the rabbinic human rights organization, T’ruah, and was signed by over 250 rabbis and cantors.

It calls on the Israeli government “to stop settler violence against Palestinians by arresting and charging perpetrators and by dismantling illegal outposts.”

The letter, addressed to Michael Herzog, Israel’s Ambassador to the US, asserts that “violent incidents perpetrated by Jews against Palestinians in the West Bank have risen more than 150% since 2019.”

“Thus far, almost none of those who have carried out these attacks have been arrested, and even fewer have been indicted and brought to justice,” the letter reads, adding that “videos and eyewitness reports show soldiers standing by, failing to intervene, and even protecting the settlers carrying out the attacks.”

Most is privately owned Palestinian land, but two sections contain land owned by Jews – one in the neighborhood’s east and one in the west. Two Israeli laws allow only Jews to reclaim property they owned before 1948. The Absentee Property Law confiscated all property owned prior to 1948 by Palestinians who spent time in an enemy country either before or after the law’s enactment. A law dating to 1970 allows Jews to reclaim their property.

Since the 1980s, right-wing organizations have worked to locate the heirs of Jewish property in Sheikh Jarrah and begin eviction proceedings against the current Palestinian residents. To date, five Palestinian families have been evicted. Legal proceedings are ongoing against dozens of others.
