But slavery was horrendous by any civilized standard. And it's part of our history. As is genocide (not really disputable).
People should realize that it's okay to be honest about how we got here. Loving the country and recognizing that we have a less-than-admirable history in certain respects are not mutually exclusive. It bothers me that people want to candycoat our history - and that includes liberals who want to take racial slurs out of "Huck Finn" and try to apply PC to historical figures or events. The CRT controversy is embarrassing to me. Why are people afraid of truth?
There were a lot of proud, courageous and amazing things about American history. There is also horror, moral depravity and actions worthy of permanent condemnation.
