the concept is foolish.
The Fair Labor Standards Act was passed in 1938. For the first time, the federal government set a minimum wage and established the principle that people are entitled to at least a certain amount of pay for their work.
It has been raised more than 22 times since FLSA was passed. That is over 83 years. In all this time, it has NEVER led to "less poverty" as promised or "improved" anyone's lives. Instead, it has merely pushed young adults out of job markets and supplanted them with illegal aliens or older people with no education.
The arguments for a minimum wage are emotional and do nothing other than make the dishonest political hacks who push it appear to care about the poor. But their policies only hurt the poor.
We have to ask ourselves: why are we aspiring to the minimum wage? There was a point in time where people earned the minimum wage at the start of their careers and were able to increase their earnings and position as time progressed. Now, however, it seems like people are resigned to earn the “minimum”. This is a sign that our system is flawed, that people no longer believe in themselves or their abilities. In this scenario it’s difficult not to immediately point to education as the cure, but that’s because it is. Every study ever conducted on the topic of income could show that earnings increase with education, and income correlates strongly with quality of life, lifespan, general health, and offspring success. Whether this means that people are happier is a question for another time, but at the very least it can be argued that increasing education rates in our country would do a far better job of bridging the gap between the wealthy and working class than artificially increasing the minimum wage. Education allows for the long-term success of those that receive it, something that increasing the minimum wage will accomplish only for a short time before prices rise and there are fewer jobs to be had at the minimum wage.
It is long past time to stop aspiring to the lowest common denominator simply because it makes dishonest political hacks feel good about themselves. Education, OR, learning a high demand job skill are the only ways to "aspire" to earn higher wages. Let's stop the gaslighting on this issue.

I agree.
Interestingly?
Many people use the Nordic countries as a beacon of 'big government at it's best'.
And yet...not ONE, Nordic country has a minimum wage.
