I guess the main reason would be scripture, and we can see where many are not following it. And scripture tells us who is to be married in the Christian sense.

No, it is for both sexes. However, it is also a genetic reality that the sex drive is stronger in the male. Then there is the idea of which gender was intended to teach children matters like spirituality, manners, etc. But the roles that God intended were long ago discarded by so-called "christians" in favor of materialism. Thus we wind up with leaders like trump, and the Republicans.
