Both parties catering, as you write so vividly in here, to their funders, their donors, the billionaires, the Wall Street financiers, the corporations. And yet they, one or the other keeps getting away with it.
It’s happened before in our country. It happened after the Civil War with the Gilded Age. So it’s not surprising it can occur when money starts infusing into politics. They will capture the governmental mechanism, just as Wall Street has captured it now. Wall Street has captured Washington at its source, the capital.
One example would be banks that we are bailing out. Why not compensation limits on their CEOs and top executives? We didn’t get that. But we did get limits on the compensation and the benefits of U.A.W. employees when we bailed out General Motors and Chrysler.
Bill Moyers: We got from unions what we didn’t get from the financiers on Wall Street?
Mike Lofgren: That is correct.
Bill Moyers: How come? How so?
Mike Lofgren: Money from Wall Street into the pockets of campaigns.
Bill Moyers: But what do we do about it? Nothing seems to tame the power of money in politics.
Mike Lofgren: The only thing that will achieve it is fundamental political reform. And the only way you’re going to get that is mass defection from the parties. Because the parties simply do not serve our interests anymore.
Full Stop...Bottom Line...End of Story.
BLUEXITA Modest Proposal For Separating Blue States From Red
Dear Red-State Trump Voter,
Let’s face it, guys: We’re done.
It is a tragedy that so much of the work that so many men and women toiled at for so long to make this a better country, and a better world, has been thrown away, leaving us all in such needless peril.
This is why our separation in all but name is necessary.

Welcome to the real world.
Anybody expecting perfect politics is in for a big let-down.
There is not going to be any easy solution to the corruption of DC, but there is a solution.
The solution requires work and patience.
We have to get the big money out of government.
We cannot look to our leaders to do this.
The solution will not come from the top down. It must be pushed, very painstakingly from the bottom up.
We have to pass the Anti-Corruption Act in every local city, town and county that we can. We the people need to make government corruption the number one issue.
The leaders are not going to do it. Those on the take are not going to do it. Big money is not going to do it. The rich and powerful are not going to do it.
It has to come from us.
We, the people.
"The American Anti-Corruption Act (AACA), sometimes shortened to Anti-Corruption Act, is a piece of model legislation designed to limit the influence of money in American politics by overhauling lobbying, transparency, and campaign finance laws. It was crafted in 2011 "by former Federal Election Commission chairman Trevor Potter in consultation with dozens of strategists, democracy reform leaders and constitutional attorneys from across the political spectrum,"[1] and is supported by reform organizations such as Represent.Us, which advocate for the passage of local, state, and federal laws modeled after the AACA.[2] It is designed to limit or outlaw practices perceived to be major contributors to political corruption.[3]
Its provisions cover three areas:[3][4]
Stop political bribery by overhauling lobbying and ethics laws
End secret money by dramatically increasing transparency
Fix our broken elections by ending gerrymandering and modernizing voting and election funding laws.
The AACA's authors state that its provisions are based on existing laws that have withstood court challenges, and are therefore constitutional.[5] "

Other than Bernie Sanders, do you have any ideas?

Hello Cinnabar,
In order to have better choices of candidates, we must force that upward from our level. Voting for a third party candidate mostly just hands power to one of the major parties. It is generally a wasted vote.
All politics begins at the local level.
Have you ever heard that?
It could never be more true when it comes to getting the big money out of politics.
A third-party candidate without a great support movement is going to be powerless, even if elected to a high office.
The media is not going to make this an issue unless people make it an issue.
What we need is huge protest marches to get the big money out of politics. Throngs of people carrying signs saying: "No More Corruption!"
I am wondering when people get angry enough to want to make a difference.
Corruption Happens When Good People Do Nothing.
And then when people ask what can be done?
Tell them to support the Anti-Corruption Act in their local elections.
Make it an issue that candidates must take a position on.
And what candidate wants to publicly support corruption?

I want to hear reporters asking candidates: "Do you support the American Anti-Corruption Act?"
Any candidate for any election.

If ever a change in the current system was merited, it’s now, Jack.
I don’t think you can deny that this Constitutional Republic is in danger of total collapse into anarchy and riots...a Balkanization of our Republic.
Socialism and anarchy and out of control crime and riots and gang robberies are not components of a Republic...a banana republic...yes, but not America.
