The founders were well aware that they could not predict the future. What they created is a base. It cannot be a finished product. The concept that if the founders did not write it down, it does not count is absurd. I doubt they would be pleased with us shooting over 100 people every day to death and injuring multiple more. People like Scalia who pretended he figured out what the founders wanted is daft. Not only is he making it up but it is irrelevant. This is not the America of 1776.
Some founders thought we should rewrite the constitution regularly, about every 10 or 20 years. That is too often, but pretending it should be etched in stone is ridiculous.
