Desantis has not shown Daffys talent as a conman. Trump had the national stage for a long time pretending to be a great businessman. Desantis will have to build and not have all that free press. He is still some guy in Florida to most Americans.

He doesn't have the trick of capturing the narrative like Trump, who had a knack for staying in the news all the time. Either the story was about Trump, or he would make himself part of whatever story was trending. It's really hard to imagine anyone else with an ego the size of Trump.
