Your link is anecdotal and an opinion...not statistical evidence.

Logic is king for engineers...I heard that often at Vandy.

    Your degree?

When I was in college, there was an engineering joke that used a calculus expression--and integral to be exact-- that had the function of major with respect to gpa. As gpa went from 4.0 to 0 major went from science and engineering, to business, to liberal arts, to fine arts. I thought it was pretty accurate then and it's still likely very accurate today. The liberal arts side of campus is where all the idiots hang out.

That’s your opinion and of course it’s wrong.

You would have heard that logic is king if you had gone to a great university like Vanderbilt.

    Agree with the first sentence.

They defend deviations from the Constitution.

Amen to that. Colleges should teach STEM Only. That also means no more sports teams.

Yes indeed. To get a degree in physics you have to be smart to begin with and then spend years of study on it. Any dummy can get a degree in history or polysci or french lit.

A sad commentary on we, as a people, and our viewpoint of our freedom can be summed up like this. We have liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans, yet those very people look at Constitutionalists as radical and extreme.................so those liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans must believe that the constitution is radical and extreme.

    As you should know.

A significant number of people still can get an education in schools and colleges despite the efforts to indoctrinate.

You are reading this because you went to school and learned to read. You seem to discount that.
You can figure out that 1/2 inch plus 1-1/4 inches makes 1-3/4 inches because you learned some math. You seem to discount that.
You are writing correctly formed sentences and your spelling is pretty good. You seem to discount that.
You are familiar with several aspects of Western culture, such as the fall of Rome, and heard or people like Galileo, Newton, Kepler, and Einstein. Even if you don't what they did and why, you can probably cite some of the equations they came up. You seem to discount that.

Schools are not a total wasteland. The indoctrination problem is real; I am not discounting that at all. But it's not like schools have become completely useless either.

Schools still turn out engineers, doctors, lawyers, programmers, welders, mechanics, etc. that are actually decently competent upon graduating. Of course, a degree is no guarantee of competence. I have found lawyers that couldn't present a competent case in court, doctors that are more hocus pocus than medicine, electrical and electronics engineers that don't know which end of a soldering iron to hold, Aeronautics engineers that are still trying to figure out what the wings are for, mechanics so bad that others stay on the other side of the shop from at all times so when the accident happens they aren't hurt by it, etc.

In Japan, they use a lot of Kanji from China. One of them is the one for 'student'. It is a pictograph of a child with X's being poured into their head as if it were knowledge.

Nothing could be further from the truth about the learning process.

    To learn, you must be:

    a) willing to learn. This is not as simple as it sounds. There is a reason masters of a craft look for this, especially in Japan and China, before accepting a disciple (student). If your head is full of yourself, you cannot learn. The counterpart of this of course is that the master must already have a reputation of competence.

    b) Study and practice, which only the student can do. The instructor is a guide and resource, like a good book. That's all. Note that arrogant instructors cannot teach. Teaching is also learning from your students!

    c) Take the time to do it. Learning isn't an instant cereal or pill you can pop. It takes time to develop the skills and the knowledge. Only the student can do this. There are no shortcuts.

    d) Realize that any credential is only as good as the reputation of the master. It is nothing more than a master pronouncing that you have satisfied his requirements for a certain level of skill.

    e) Recognize the 'Guild' or other collection of masters. They can instantly see you for what you are, no matter how you try to hide behind your credential. Recognize that learning does not stop at the end of any school or college. Whether you become a doctor, a lawyer, an engineer, or a mechanic, that 'Guild' is still there.

Note that putting condoms on bananas does not teach anything except how to play with bananas and condoms. This is politics, not the competence of any master. It is indoctrination, not education.

You've been through school with your wits still intact. You see the incompetence here instantly.

But you have become jaded. You have worked yourself into a false dilemma fallacy. There is still good in schools, despite their problems.

They often do. Indeed, they deviate from the Constitution regularly themselves.
