He refused to let the defense show that arbery was known in town as "the jogger" for his habit of stealing and then running away like he was just out jogging. This is critical for the mcmichael defense that they had reasonable cause to think arbery had just robbed someone and they were justified in making a citizens arrest. Judge said the mcmichaels did not know about arbery's criminal record but that is very doubtful.
