Default Ahmaud Arbery's mother says her son can now "rest in peace"

Wanda Cooper-Jones, mother of Ahmaud Arbery, spoke outside the courthouse after the verdicts were read. She told the crowd that was gathered that she wanted to say "Thank you."

"I just want to say thank you, guys. Thank you. Thank each and every one of you who fought this fight with us. It's been a long fight.

It's been a hard fight. But God is good," she said.

Cooper-Jones said, "to tell you the truth, I never thought this day back in 2020."

"I never thought this day would come. But God is good," she added.

She concluded by saying that her son can now "rest is peace."

"You know him as Ahmaud, I know him as 'Quez,' he will now rest in peace," she said

Close. The first charge was for intentional murder. Only Travis McMichael was found guilty of that. Travis and Greg McMichael then found guilty of four Felony Murder charges which is not as serious a charge as intentional murder but still very serious charges. The four Murder charges are based on the four other felony charges (assault, imprisonment, etc,.). Both McMichaels were found guilty on the felony charges that were the basis of the four murder charges. They would have to be found guilty of the felony charges to be found guilty of the felony murder charges and they were.

Mr. Bryan was found not guilty of intentional murder but was convicted of one of the two felony charges and guilty of the felony murder charge based on the felony charge associated with it. He was thus found not guilty on one of the two felon charges and one of the two felony murder charges.

It all makes more sense if you look at the charges from the bottom up.

They have to be guilty of the felony charges to be found guilty of the felony murder charges and guilty of the felony murder charges to be found guilty of intentional murder.

His father showed a lot of class, and offered words that I didn't expect to hear from the Sharpton crowd.

In essence, someone died during the commission of a crime. Only one of them committed the actual murder, but they all broke the law. Said crime caused the death.

Travis McMichael, the now-convicted murderer, was driving. his father, Gregory, was in the bed of the pick-up with a .357 magnum. I recall seeing one screenshot from the infamous video that showed that he might be holding a gun, but it was just out of focus and shaky to really tell...

I thought these three guys were guilty as hell and should be held accountable as they pursued that Arbery. Kyle Rittenhouse was pursued and threatened with harm, in essence he was Arbery but unlike Arbery he was better prepared to deal with his attackers

I had it backwards. I remember one of them was in the back of the truck. I'll bet before the video started, he waved his gun at Arbery in order to get him to stop jogging.

It amazes me that anyone is surprised by this verdict.

Yes. He was no innocent bystander just videoing the event. He assisted the McMichaels by chasing Mr. Arbuery with his truck, nearly running him over and corralled him into the McMichaels pathway where he was subsequently shot by Travis McMichael. Mr. Bryan was an active participant who assaulted Mr. Arbuery with a deadly weapon (his pick up truck) as he intentionally assisted the McMichaels. Thus Mr. Bryan committed felony assault and was an accomplice to murder. In legal practice an accomplice to a felony is as guilty as the individual committing a felony.
