Usually what stokes anger and social resentment more than anything else is dependence on a paternal figure when you're an adult. That is, as government increases the social welfare state and dependence on it, resentment and anger in society will increase. Nothing like having nothing to do all day waiting for your welfare check. An idle mind and hands are the devil's playground...

That is pay for service per a contractual agreement. It's no different than if I worked for a corporation or other employer. I performed a service in return for compensation.

Welfare on the other hand is money for nothing. You did nothing to get paid welfare other than be unemployable or otherwise useless. If you weren't, you'd have a job and wouldn't need welfare.
