I think the defendant is being judged by the jury and the judge differently because he is a minor than as if he was an adult.

I think the jury and the judge has already predetermined in their mind's that this kid was just a kid trying to act tough, with a big gun, and ended up getting in over his head, and then having to shoot his way our of an incident that became dangerous to himself. In other words, they are already just looking at this as kids make bad judgements all the time, so let's get him off.

Meanwhile two people lay dead, and one seriously damaged for life because of this juvenile trying to act like a vigilante, have a gun he acquired illegally, took it across state lines looking to use it, and threatening people, intimidating people of color, that he didn't like by his own choosing, while ignoring direct curfew police orders to not be there in the first place.

Legally speaking, yes of course. But what we are dealing with here is retaliation, not fairness.
Those jury members dont go into witness protection after the trial, they are sitting ducks.
Even if they dont acquit, they can still be targets if they dont convict strongly enough.
