Back to "traditional" meals though. They will be the most expensive ever, with the highest price jump since 2015.

I'm sure there are those who would argue with you about the holidays not "being about" traditional foods. For some that is what they are all about. The meal. The time spent dining together for that one meal with traditional, handed down family recipes. But there are so many who would like to change "tradition" in this country. I get it. Maybe some needed to be changed but one can only push so far.

I said, no, meaning your chearctization of my meaning was incorrect. I then explained why I asked leaningright the question.

    Why the quote around 'religious'?

Christmas is called Christmas because it celebrates the birth of Christ. How is that not a religious holiday?
Does it matter when Christ was born? The Bible describe conditions consistent with Spring.

Many of the trappings of "Christmas" are not about Christmas at all, including the tree, the lights, or even St. Nicholas (a real person). These are more related to another Winter Solstice holiday, Saturnia, or to the Norse myths of Ragnarok.

Egyptians were apparently the first to bring a tree into the house and decorate it for Winter Solstice. They used a small palm tree.
In northern Europe, this became an Ash tree, then an evergreen tree.

Decorative lights came from the Prose Erda, representing the lights of Loki, the demi-god of fire. At first, candles were used, later to be replaced by incandescent, then LED lights.

For me, the tree is a nice tradition...not of Christmas, but of Winter Solstice. Same with the lights. They are a nice way to brighten up dark winter days.

Gift giving has always been a feature of Saturnia, as it celebrates the harvest home and the bounty obtained through the year. Christmas simply borrowed from that, emphasizing the greatest gift of all to the world, Christ Himself.

If you want to be chintzy, that's YOUR problem.

That depends on what you consider a traditional meal and where you get the food from.

You set your own traditions. You do not get to dictate anyone else's.

Our grocery stores have been among those using creative tactics to cover up empty shelves.

Sporting goods stores here have a very limited inventory (this not counting ammunition, which is another story entirely) and have had since before summer.

Home improvement stores like Lowe's and Home Depot, even local business like lumber yards and such have an extremely sub-standard inventory supply.

Have you tried to buy car parts? If you have a 2015-2019 pickup or SUV and need a rotor your going to park that vehicle for the forseeable future.

This response is to that other poster as much as it is to you. But seriously, there's a shortage of a lot of things in this country. Who is at fault. I'm withholding speculation until presented with more evidence.
Supply chain disruption due to the GLOBAL pandemic. We've had a truck driver shortage for at least a couple of years now which is adding to the problems.
