Idk, it was pistol, though. Revolver.

My guess is .44 Magnum or .357.

.06 could go through 3 people easy.

Shotgun blast would have got both if the director was slightly behind and to one side of the cinematographer.

A standard all lead wadcutter would easily do this. Through one into the other. Given the pistol was either .44 or .45 (typical old west pistol calibers) and loaded with modern powder, it isn't hard to see what happened happening.

Hmmm ... accidental death ... the scum had a pistol and just started pulling the trigger and this poor innocent jest happened to be in the way of the bullet and the guy behind her just happened to be in the way as well. By the way, just which scene were they shooting that called for a gun to be discharged on a non-actor. Oh yeah, this was a nonunion who should not have been there anyway.

By the way ... the pistol had been used for target practice ... what was the target ???

What I’ve wondered the first time I heard the story.
