There is a true split among the Republicans, there are the classical conservatives, and now we have the populists who are happy to abandon conservatism if its supported by a certian anti-intellectualist group.

This happened in China with the "cultural revolution" where the government intentionally rolled back the gains we attained from the age of enlightenment. They sent college professors and writers to the country to work on farms and prohibited them from reading or publishing, in an attempt to limit liberal education for the masses, instead turning to conservative indoctrination.

What China has done is scary. They have this new 'game' they play with people's heads. A 'good citizen' game. You get points for saying good things about China, and associating with other people who score well. You score well according to the friends you keep. It's all tallied up on your cell phone. Everybody is connected to the main score-keeping computer. It tracks you. If you associate with 'the wrong people' you lose points. You want points. You get advancement in jobs and other perks for having lots of points.

If you break rules, such as jaywalking, you lose points. You have to be a good obedient citizen to score well.

Sort of an insidious way to force patriotism into people's minds.

We will probably get the same thing here in the USA, sadly.
