Well this is great.....Biden claims unconditional support of Taiwan independence at the so called Town Hall, his handlers immediately walk that back, and the Chinese mock the whole exercise.

You are incorrect. No President since Nixon's One China Policy has stated support for Taiwanese independence. Even before Nixon's One China Policy, Presidents never actually supported Taiwanese independence, rather Taiwan taking back over Mainland China.

Biden spoke out for the unambiguous defense of Taiwan, which is a departure from Bush's(the son) policy of Strategic Ambiguity. Between Nixon and Bush there was no ambiguity in our promise to defend Taiwan, but a lot of confusion as to why, given that we stated it was part of China.

Biden's statement was walked back a bit, with a somewhat return to Strategic Ambiguity, but were a strong statement to China. America is back to standing up to China, as we have seen with this strong statement, and the providing of nuclear submarines to Australia.
